Are you looking for ways that you and your family can be helpers during this time of social and physical distancing? Help brighten the day of isolated seniors by making cards and letters for “Bubbies and Zaydes” (Yiddish for grandmothers and grandfathers, but in this case any senior adult).
This is great way low-tech way for you and your kids to reach out to older adults in our community who are feeling isolated in these challenging times.
Please sign up below to let us know that you are participating and select a local senior living community to send your card(s) to. The staff will distribute the cards to seniors. If you have any questions, please contact Dina Stambler, JFS Outreach and Programs Manager at Dina.Stambler@shalomraleigh.org.
Please share your act of kindness! We would love seeing photos of your letters and cards. Please tag us on Facebook and Instagram @RaleighCaryJFS and use the hashtag #JFScardsforBZ.
Here are some things to keep in mind as you design your cards:
Be sure that your letter is legible (large print).
Avoid religion. This is a JFS project, but the senior communities will distribute the cards and letters to residents of all religions.
Exclude the date (day, month, and year).
Embrace creativity! Colorful drawings, rainbows, traced/painted handprints and heartfelt sentiments are always appreciated. NO GLITTER please!
Be kind and thoughtful. Keep it light, don’t write about death or illness.
Keep in mind that you will not receive a letter back. Not asking for reciprocation is part of the beauty of your act of kindness. We don’t want recipients to feel burdened by being unable to respond.
